Description

Denali National Park is easily accessible by bus, but flying above it gives you a much better view of its tundra, peaks, and woods. The park is around six million acres (2.4 million hectares) of untamed wilderness.

The definitive tour of Denali that covers more of the Alaska Range than any other tour available. An unforgettable experience that includes the many faces of North America’s tallest mountain in addition to the features included in the other tours.

Come see why Denali flightseeing tours are continuously rated the #1 tour in Alaska and considered the greatest mountain flight in the world. Alaska is a land of few roads and air travel is the only way to view the remote regions of Denali Park. Your chances of seeing Denali are greatest by air. Each passenger will get to enjoy the view from a window seat and have access to a personal headset.

These flights focus on Denali and the complex geography associated with the colossal uplift of the North American and Pacific plates. The vertical relief associated with tectonic movement has created some of the largest mountains in the world from base to summit.

Talkeetna Air Taxi now has the option to land in numerous spots throughout the Alaska Range thanks to a concession that the National Park Service granted them for using the glaciers in Denali National Park. To choose the ideal landing location, your pilot will consider the weather, illumination, and snow conditions. Talkeetna is the only firm in the world to perform more glacier landings, earning it the nickname "The Glacier Landing Company" throughout all of Alaska. An additional 30 minutes are needed for a glacier landing (15 minutes of time exploring on foot and 15 minutes for landing and takeoff).

Frequently Asked Questions about Grand Denali Flightseeing with Optional Glacier Landing

How long is the Grand Denali Flightseeing Tour?

Tour duration is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes). Add 30 minutes if selecting the option with the Glacier Landing (15 minutes of time exploring on foot and 15 minutes for landing and takeoff).

Where does the tour depart?

The Grand Denali Flightseeing Tour departs from Talkeetna Air Taxi's log cabin office at 14212 E 2nd Street, Talkeetna AK 99676.

When should we arrive?

Please arrive 45 minutes before your scheduled tour time.

What does this tour include?

This Denali National Park tour includes use of a headset and live narration from your experienced pilot, and a glacier landing (if option is selected). This tour also includes pick up and drop off within a 3-mile radius downtown Talkeetna. If you have chosen the Glacier Landing option, a $15 per person entrance fee for the Denali Park glacier landing is due at the time of your flight unless you already have a National Park Pass. For children 16 and under, a National Park Pass is not required. Individual passes are valid for 7 days from the date of issue. If you have a Denali Annual Pass or Senior Pass it is valid for the Glacier Landing.

Are we going to see the peak of Denali and/or land on the Glacier?

In Alaska, especially around big mountains, weather and clouds are constantly shifting so no exact experience can ever be guaranteed. Big mountains make their own weather systems. And with two opposing systems on either side of the Alaska Range the “actual” weather can change hourly. Talkeetna Air pilots make every tour unique by showing you the best currently available views, lighting and scenery while always keeping safety as the number one priority.

How is the seating arranged?

This is a shared flight with a maximum capacity for 9 passengers. Talkeetna Air will try to seat couples and families side-by-side as much as possible, though particular seating cannot guaranteed as it is often dictated by the FAA-approved “weight and balance” program. However, visibility from every seat is excellent, and everyone gets a window seat.

What should we bring?

Bring long pants, closed toe shoes, sunglasses, and cameras with extra batteries and memory cards. It is easy to take well over 100 photos. You should avoid bringing backpacks/purses on the airplane as space is limited. Talkeetna Air is happy to hold them until you return from your tour. Binoculars can be used on the glacier landings but are not recommended during the flight. If you are particularly prone to motion sickness, taking a precautionary, non-drowsy, anti-motion sickness medication is a good idea.

What should we wear?

Long pants and closed-toe shoes are always recommended. From May to the middle of September wear a light/medium jacket (layers are always a sure thing in Alaska). From mid September to April a heavy jacket, hat, boots and gloves are recommended. For Glacier Landing flights, Talkeetna Air supplies waterproof over-boots which fit over your shoes.

Is transportation provided?

Local shuttle/van transfers are available within Talkeetna to the airport. Please call the number on your e-ticket to arrange your pick-up location and time. Passengers who are outside a 3-mile radius of Talkeetna must come to the Talkeetna airport where their office is located.

What if there's inclement weather?

When you check in for your Denali flightseeing experience from Talkeetna, they will give a briefing on visibility and current conditions. It is then your decision whether to fly or not to fly.

How much experience does Talkeetna Air's pilots have?

Talkeetna Air Taxi has the most experienced glacier pilots that are currently flying the Alaska Range. Talkeetna Air Taxi has landed more people on the glaciers than all the other air services combined from 1999 to 2015. Their pilots average 12 years of flight experience in Denali National Park.

Only assistance dogs are allowed on this tour.
